This review paper, based on 32 previous studies, highlights the strong association between smoking, androgenetic alopecia (hair loss), and particularly, premature hair graying. The findings consistently indicate that smokers are more likely to experience hair loss compared to non-smokers.

The underlying mechanisms for this increased risk are likely attributed to the harmful effects of nicotine and other toxic constituents inhaled during smoking.
